Dynamic skirt with front opening
It makes more sense to think of this piece as a skirt with a front opening so you that you can walk without tripping. I think the beauty of this piece cannot be appreciated in static photos and is best appreciated dynamically in how the skirt overlay moves around you, and in the dimension generated from the length difference between the hem of the pants and the hem of the skirt overlay. I am a big fan of mikado fabric and I love that it gives me hakama vibes like traditional Japanese clothing. Beware that because of the softness of the fabric in the pants, your tummy can really show in the front! In terms of size, it does have 2 layers of fasteners so even though I picked a smaller size I was able to fit using the outer layer fastener on the back. It'll be hard to find a fitting occasion to wear this to besides a photoshoot or runway-- a little too chic for formal or business settings, a little too dramatic and showy for galas or weddings, a little too fancy casual wear. It will probably be most advantageous for situations where you will be showing off yourself moving around a lot like when you're dancing but don't want to wear a tight dress. Would have been more practical if the skirt overlay could be separated from the pants but unfortunately they are attached.
